This course is a good solution for those who have limited time to study and experiment in the area of contemporary jewellery. The course is taught on a one-to-one basis. Each student is guided individually in order to achive his or her needs.
There are two different types of programmes: technical and conceptual. -
4 different programsaimed for students with prior experience in jewellery, who desire to work on conceptual assignments. These courses provides them a more liberal understanding and helps develop their work. In each of these programs, the first part concentrates on collecting materials, developing ideas and experimenting, and the second part on transforming ideas into a collection of jewellery.
Impressions of the city:
The starting point is Florence. The student observes his surroundings, walks in the streets and collect materials on his personal impressions of the city.
Five senses:
The theme serves as an entrance to a research of new materials, connecting precise significance to each material. The students will work on their creativity, choosing the quality that he/she wants to make evident in each of the five senses.
Found objects:
This course takes inspiration from a forgotten object or an object found on the street. The theme will be developed through various ways of confrontation: reproduction, abstraction, contrast, etc.
Renaissance:
The student will choose a work of art visiting museums and churches in Florence and will study it through various aspects. Prior knowlege in Italian art history of the renaissance period is required for this course. -
Basic Techniques for Beginners:
In this program, the students will learn the basic techniques such as: sawing, filing, soldering, hammering and polishing, through exercises creating the first collection of jewellery. In addition to traditional techniques, exercises include the development of creativity and the possibility to experiment with alternative materials.
Experimentation with materials:
This program aims to experiment with and invent different materials. One part consists of creating a series of objects that have a the same form but using different materials (for example, silver, resin, perspex, wood, paper, etc.). Another part is to experiment with various treatments on the surface such as: patina, combination of metals, imprinting designs, gold leaf, pigment, etc. Students can also bring materials that they want to use.
Textile techniques in metal:
In this program, allowes the student to create jewellery experimenting with various textile techniques using metal wire. The first part of the course consists of a study of basic techniques such as weaving, crochet, french braid. The second part consists of choosing one or two of the techniques learned to realize final pieces of jewellery. -
Time Table:
Each course consists of a total of 15 hours.
Weekend Courses: 3 days, Friday 17:00 – 20:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 – 17:00- Pigments on Metal
